Sep 6 Lisboa -last day

We headed out to breakfast at Hygge Kaffe where we had poached eggs on toast with herby butter, scrambled eggs and homemade bread, and a cinnamon roll, their specialty. Our drinks were lemonade with passion fruit and a combo of honeydew melon and mint. The food was excellent!

Then we walked to Eduardo park where there was a book fair. There was a stall of Portuguese course books, and more than one of children’s books. A lot of folks recommend reading children’s books to build up basic vocabulary!

We thought we might walk along the tree-shaded main street of Avenida da Liberdade, appreciating various potential apartment buildings along the way. It seemed too busy for a residence perhaps, but there were many upscale stores. We planned to go to the Natural History Museum’s Botanic Garden, but changed our mind after we realized that there was an admission price, and we were too tired to appreciate it.

We eventually arrived at the Avenida metro stop, halfway to where we stayed in June near Rossio, and rode back to São Sebastião. We then had to search Il Corte Inglese for the ice cream that was no longer at the entrance. We found another option in the gourmet food court on the 7th floor. David had Basil gelato and Pam had dark chocolate sorbetto. There’s a great view to the north from the 7th floor terrace. We headed back to the apartment for laundry and naps.

For dinner we went to a great little Moroccan/Indian restaurant around the corner. We had chicken tagine with olives, chicken bastila, which was spiced ground chicken in filo dough, and baklava that had a halvah (sweet sesame paste) filling.

Tomorrow we pack up and head home.
