We photographed in the Naturpark Puez-Geisler, or Parco naturale Puez-Odle. We walked into the park on a cliffside road amid spruce trees. The mid-distance valley below was filled with layers of fog, and a mountain cliff was close across a ravine. We were near the peak, Sass de Putia. This would be a great alpine park to explore more.
The Halslhütte staff served a lovely buffet breakfast with muesli and a huge bowl of yogurt. Hams and cheeses are served everywhere for breakfast too.
We got on the road for the long drive to Venice. We headed toward Bolzano. That main highway in the valley was a parking lot. Everybody was ending their August vacation, I suppose. Sam left the highway and headed cross-country. I don’t know if that was the plan or a detour because of traffic. The mountains seemed endless, and dramatically beautiful always. The twisting switchbacks were another thing. Kudos to our drivers for their marathon driving endeavors. You need constant focus to drive the mountain roads.
At mid-afternoon most people got dropped off at the airport and then we got dropped off 1km away at our nearby hotel. Ah, welcome, comfortable bed!
