Saturday: Our Dolomites Photography trip begins.
Mid-morning, we met the Action Photo Tours group at the Marriott, a half km from our hotel. There were two vans for the 10 attendees and 2 leaders.
Sam the in-country leader, drove approx 2 3/4 hours to our first refugio Capanna Cervino near Passo Rolle. I remember passing through the town of Feltre and the highway number SS50. The twisty mountain roads were just beginning.
Capanna was high enough that there were very few trees. The pastures were close-cropped by cows, and higher up by sheep. We explored the trail that went up the hill from the rifugio. It went up to a little lodge called Baita Segantini and around to a high ridge with a Christ statue, but that was too ambitous for our resting time.
For sunset, we drove 5 minutes on the “road” paved with crumbled dolomitic gravel to Baita Segantini. A pond next to the lodge had a few mallards and cows came to visit. The pond produced nice reflections of the nearby peaks.
No night sky photos tonight.
