We decided to get out of the tourist center of Porto and explore some parks. We walked to Santa Caterina, which is a popular shopping street and a central bus stop.
We took the bus to Jardim Marques de Oliveira and learned more of the local birds. The Merlin app that identifies bird song really speeds up the ability to identify the birds around us. We were getting to know the songs of Eur. blackbird (a thrush like our robin), Eur. robin (an old-world flycatcher, not like our robin), Blackcap (loud and melodious singer), and Serin (really joyful singer).
We got on the Metro to head out to Estadio de Dragão, which was near another park. We walked aways in what seemed like a rundown neighborhood to São Roque. It was a charming place, hosting a children’s party when we were there, but the labyrinth, which was the gateway to the majority of the park, was closed for renovations.
The tree in the first picture like a tree in Miami that comes in three colors: red, yellow, purple, purple being not nearly common like the first two. The joke is it is a tree for your neighbors to have because the root system is so vast it can mess with your foundation if it is by your house.
