Lisbon Day One (June 7th)

As I write this, Pam and I are at the end of our second full day in Porto. I’m going back to review Lisbon, so it doesn’t get lost in the brain fog 🙂

Pam and I got up and were out a bit before 9am on our first Lisbon day which is surprisingly early considering the previous day’s many fiascos. Part of why we were up early was that we’d never really had dinner the night before. We actually went to bed starving hungry but were too tired to deal with finding food. (I feel the need to say that things do get much better on this trip, but it was a rough start.) We managed to find a good-enough breakfast and moved on with our day.

We experienced walking up-and-down-and-up-and-down all the streets. We checked out some scenic overlooks that included views of the Saint George’s Castle, found the nearby Rossio train station, and sat down in some plazas along Avenue da Liberdade. Fabrica de Nata pastries were a highlight. We explored some small grocery markets to find out what was available.

We started out by wandering around the neighborhood of our apartment (Lisbonaire Apartments) and snapping a few pictures. I have to say, I really loved Lisbon right from the start. It’s just beautiful. Pam was somewhat less enthusiastic, but we were both still in a quite low-energy state from Covid even though we no longer felt actively sick.

No question living in Lisbon (and Porto, too) is a daily workout. A low-key but enjoyable day, overall.
