Day 13 – July 5 Departure

We got up at 5 am to make the 40 minute drive to Keflavik Airport to return the rental car at 6:30 am. We couldn’t see any volcano smoke on the drive, alas. It was a very small airport with a short walk from the Blue Car rental office to the airport terminal.

At 9:05 GMT (Iceland time) we were on our plane. Sadly, we did not get a flyover view of the volcano from the plane either. We did our best to sleep / rest on the flight. There was enough room that we were able to spread out across a couple of rows and use the seats like a couch. Later, we could see details of the Canadian coast as we flew over Labrador, the St. Lawrence River and Prince Edward Island.

At 9:35 EDT, we flew over Mt. Katahdin in Maine, a mountain that we’ve hiked before. It was even marked on the in-flight view of our route. We could see the trails on the mountain.

Then we landed back in Boston. Home again!
